Michael Abney To Receive Sasen Leadership Award

Alexandria, VA –The Health Industry Distributors Association (HIDA) announced today that Michael D. Abney Jr. of Quidel Corporation is the recipient of the 2021 John F. Sasen Leadership Award. The Sasen award recognizes individuals who demonstrate exceptional leadership, commitment, and service to the healthcare products distribution industry and HIDA.
“As an industry, we thank Mike Abney for his leadership in championing the role of distribution in healthcare,” said HIDA President & CEO Matthew J. Rowan. “Mike worked with John Sasen for many years and that connection makes his receiving this award all the more special.”
“In our industry, it is validation enough to be mentioned in the same breath with John Sasen, but to receive HIDA’s award bearing his name is truly an extraordinary honor,” Abney said. “I want to thank HIDA for its leadership in guiding our industry through the pandemic and for surrounding me with so many peers who exemplify the principles embodied in the John F. Sasen Leadership Award.”
Abney joined the HIDA Educational Foundation Board of Directors in 2014 and has served as its Treasurer since 2015. He is also a founding member of HIDA’s Healthcare Supply Chain Collaborative Steering Committee.
Abney is Senior Vice President, North American Sales & Distribution at Quidel Corporation. Prior to joining Quidel, he served in executive roles in manufacturing and distribution including VP, Channel and Distribution for ConvaTec and VP Supplier Management at PSS World Medical.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Finance from the University of Florida.
The 2021 John F. Sasen Leadership Award will be presented at the 2021 HIDA and HIDA Educational Foundation joint Board meeting, December 7.
