Senator Patty Murray Honored For Preparedness Policy Excellence

Alexandria, VA, June 12, 2023 – The Health Industry Distributors Association today announced that Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) has been honored as the recipient of HIDA’s Preparedness Policy Excellence Award.
“Senator Murray is one of the most impactful legislators in the Senate, with a proven track record as a champion of health preparedness,” said HIDA President & CEO Matthew J. Senator Murray served as chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) from 2021 to 2023, and as Ranking Member from 2015 to 2021. In this capacity, Senator Murray was the lead sponsor of the Prepare for and Respond to Existing Viruses, Emerging New Threats (PREVENT) and Pandemics Act. The PREVENT Pandemics Act is comprehensive, bipartisan legislation that will apply lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic to strengthen medical supply chains and public health preparedness. In December 2022, Senator Murray successfully led efforts to include the PREVENT Pandemics Act in the omnibus appropriations bill that President Biden signed into law.
In January 2023, Senator Murray became chairwoman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, where she oversees all federal spending. She has previously served as chairwoman of the Senate Budget Committee, the Senate Veterans' Affairs Committee, and the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
