Industry Visionary And Former HIDA Chairman DeWight Titus Passes Away
Alexandria, VA, May 5, 2022 – Long-time distribution industry leader F. DeWight Titus III passed away at his home May 3.
Titus served as HIDA Chairman in 1983 and as HIDA Educational Foundation Chairman from 1986-1990 and again in 1997. A visionary and innovator, Titus played a major role in launching key HIDA programs that continue today, including the annual Executive Conference and the AMS Sales Training Program.
“DeWight was a visionary for his business, the industry, and for HIDA,” said HIDA President & CEO Matthew J. Rowan. “We are deeply indebted to him for his leadership contributions, which are reflected in HIDA’s success. He had a profound and lasting impact on HIDA and the distribution industry.”
Titus was known for pioneering distribution and sales advances and freely sharing his learnings with colleagues and competitors. His company, F.D. Titus & Son, became a leader in the physician office market during a time of consolidation and managed care growth. The company was sold to General Medical in 1994, and became part of McKesson in 1997.
Titus received numerous industry honors, including HIDA’s John F. Sasen Award (then called the Industry Award of Distinction) in 1986. He was inducted into the Medical Distribution Hall of Fame in 2001 and the Bellwether League Hall of Fame for Healthcare Supply Chain Leadership in 2021.
